New Beginnings: My Journey into Parisian Real Estate

My diary entry as I open a new chapter in my life

Entering Parisian Real Estate

This past Monday, I began training for my new career as a real estate agent in Paris. Starting a new chapter is never easy. It can feel overwhelming, especially after years of building expertise in an industry you are familiar with, passionate about, and deeply connected to. But there is another side to this—an incredible opportunity to grow, challenge yourself, and apply the skills I've mastered in new and exciting ways.

I’m stepping into the luxury real estate world with fresh eyes, an open mind, and a hunger to learn, grow, and succeed. As a Canadian who spent the last five years living in Italy and now finds herself in Paris, I’ve embraced the challenges of relocating, adapting, and evolving. Working in French, a language that is both my first and not most comfortable, is one of those challenges. Yet, it fuels me to push forward. My time in Italy prepared me for exactly this. Five years ago, I faced a similar uphill battle. Searching for a job in Italy with minimal knowledge of the language, I was met with constant rejection. When Gucci finally called, I knew it was my chance, even if it seemed out of reach. I promised their HR manager that, in two months, I would be proficient in Italian and ready to work. Her response was laughter. But I was determined.

For those two months, I committed myself fully. I translated articles, picked out key words, watched Italian shows, took classes, and practiced with anyone who would listen—even the baristas at my local coffee shop. When the second interview came, I was told it would be mostly in English with some Italian. Instead, it turned into a two-hour conversation entirely in Italian. Exhausted and uncertain, I still managed to secure the role. From that experience, I learned a few invaluable lessons:

  • When there’s a will, there’s always a way

  • Persistence is key

  • Hard work pays off when you commit wholeheartedly

  • Over preparation is never wasted effort

  • Everything will be ok

Now, as I step into the world of Parisian luxury real estate, I am reminding myself of those important lessons. If I was able to learn a new language, immerse myself in a foreign culture, and secure a coveted position at Gucci, there’s no reason I cannot do the same now. With dedication, I will improve my French, immerse myself in Parisian life, and establish myself as a successful real estate agent.

The most meaningful achievements come from moments where hard work meets opportunity. And I know this is one of those times.
